最近、フィリピンのインターネット回線が不安定となっています(T_T)

レッスンのキャンセル等で

ご迷惑をお掛けすることが増えてしまっていますが、

そのあたりの状況をエセルがレポしてくれています。

It has been weeks since the internet service became very unstable. It has brought a lot of trouble with my family and affected our daily activities. My husband and I are both working from home. My son is taking distance learning; my daughter is running her ramen shop online. So, stable internet service is badly needed.
Indeed, communication via the internet has become part of the basic necessities for almost all of us, especially in these trying times of pandemic. Unfortunately, as we are facing an uphill struggle to get by, poor internet service is adding insult to injury.
My desperation has brought me to search for answers. So I talked with a friend, an officer working for the biggest telecommunications company (PLDT), it was of no avail because he could not provide a reasonable answer.
Recently I came across some news articles tackling the telecommunication service problem in my country. I learned that a bad internet connection is a more pressing problem in the country compared to poverty and corruption based on a study. And that solving internet woes and improving telco services is in the hands of the government. A former official of the government said the real problem is not the lack of investment from the telcos, but the red-tape which only the government can solve. It is the ‘legal’ red-tape, numerous permits that require so many signatures is the real problem.

Until around 2012, there were not many complaints from telcos on this red-tape because texting revenues made them profitable, even with the small number of towers they had. When smartphones appeared in 2012, and internet content replaced SMS, the red tape has begun to be felt when mobile telcos started overhauling their networks to accommodate the 3G to 4G technology.

There is a call for support from local government agencies to improve the digital life of the Filipino.
And the help of President Duterte regarding the process of getting permits to build cell sites and towers is needed.
Sad to say, knowing all of these matters has not solved nor answered my predicaments at this moment.

根本的な問題がまだ解決されてなさそうですね。。。

エセルのコラムでは言及されていませんが

フィリピンの光ファイバーは中国に牛耳られている

とも聞いたことがありますので

この問題の解決は相当難しそうですね・・・。

メルによると

フィリピンの学校はまだ再開されておらず

つい最近まで何のフォローもなかったそうです。。。

やっと２週間ぐらい前からようやくオンラインでの授業が開始され

メルもその対応でてんやわんやだそうです。
