Happy Friday, Mommies and Daddies!!! Days are passing by soooooo quickly, don’t you think so?.. I can’t believe that it is going to be November in just a week or so… I always feel like it has been just a few weeks since I celebrated the New Year with my family… Christmas is fast approaching! But unlike the previous years, I cannot feel the welcoming and joyous Christmas vibes that Filipinos usually feel when Christmas time is coming… Oh, you all got it right!!! It’s because of the COVID-19 pandemic… Aside from forcing many businesses to shut down and leaving many Filipinos unemployed, hungry and distraught, this pandemic also caused all the most awaited and celebrated days and events for Filipinos to get cancelled… Well, to be honest, I am not so affected by these sudden and drastic changes (which I am really super thankful about). Aside from the fact that I work online, I also am the type of person who does not go out much. I usually just go out once every two weeks to buy groceries and visit my family. I am not a pessimistic or the type who easily gets burned out by my problems (oh, I got tons of them, believe me), but there is one thing about these changes that are brought about by COVID-19 that is really causing me so much stress recently… That is……. my son’s online classes.
Due to the continuous rising in the number of COVID-19 cases in our country, our government has decided that there won’t be face to face classes this and was considering the possibility of having academic freeze for this school year. Parents were actually so relieved about this resolution by the government. Our children’s safety is more important than anything in the world. But the incumbent Secretary of Department of Education strongly opposed this and came up with the resolution of having the students study at home (BLENDED LEARNING PROGRAM). They can either choose modular distance learning if they don’t have access online, or choose online distance learning if they have internet connection at home. At first I was actually planning to just let my son have the modular method, but I changed my mind later on as I badly wanted him to feel some sense of normalcy amid all the uncertainties that we are experiencing right now. I still think that it’s better than choosing the modular distance learning. The thing is, the Philippines internet service is still not so good and unreliable. Because of the sudden rise in number of people who are using the internet at the same time everyday, we cannot avoid having problems with the internet speed. To make this matter worse, students have to do a lot of activities and quizzes during the class, and tons of activities and homework after the class is dismissed… Online classes are far, far different from having face to face classes at school… At school, you can hear the teachers’ explanations about the lessons much clearer, and you can always ask your classmates for help if some are not so clear to you… Children are also more inspired as they are studying with their friends and classmates.
I am okay with the homework, it’s just that some of them are so difficult. Parents really have to help their children and many of us have to study the lessons so we could explain about them to our children. I am extremely terrible at mathematics! And my son’s math lesson are just DRIVING ME CRAZY T_T!!! Many students now sleep very late at night to finish their hmework and submit them online, then wake up very early as their first class starts at 7 am sharp! Parents, like me, stay up uploading and turning in our children’s homework until 3 am in the morning. Sadly, some students could no longer bear the stress that this distance learning program had given them and dicided to take their own lives T_T… Just a week ago, an 11 year old girl commited suicide because she could not understand and answer the activities in her module. This is truly tragic and heart wrenching… Studying should be fun and inspiring and not something that burns out the learners…
Ahhh… It has been just 2 weeks since the classes started… We have to brace ourselves for more sleepless night and stressful months before the school year ends. I guess I just have to stay positive and strong so I can always guide my son. It’s one of our duties as parents, right?..
Thak you soooooooo very much for having time to read my blog entry, Mommies and Daddies… Seeing my students online is my ultimate stress reliever… Thank you always for your trust and patience… Thank you, thank you, Mommy Kayo… Thank you for always helping me out and guiding me… Thank you for understanding my situation…
Advance Happy Halloween, everyone!!! Let us all stay HAPPY, HEALTHY and POSITIVE…

実際のところ、私としては本気で楽しんでますけどね(^^;
