Hello everybody! I’m really excited to be part of this blog.
But before anything else, let me introduce myself.
My name is Ethel Amar, a mother of two. My daughter is 25 years old and my son is turning 14 soon. My husband is a Nihonggo teacher. Yes, you heard it right. He’s teaching Japanese language to Filipinos and I’m teaching English to Japanese.
You might find it strange how and why an electrical engineer like me landed an English teaching job, it’s a long story though. But just like any other fairytales you’ve known or read, I’d say that my story’s ending would be happy. Happy!? Yes… and she lives happily ever after.
Teaching has become my passion since I started it 12 years ago. I’d never realized that I could do it because English was my waterloo subject in school .That was the reason why I took up Electrical Engineering course because English subject was boring to me. I’m really grateful to my friend who is now a Filipino Diplomat in Malaysia for persuading me to impart my skills to ESL learners.
So what made me decide to continue? My students from all walks of life inspired me a lot! Young and old, girls and boys, men and women, officials of the government, housewives , scientists, engineers, medical professionals, lawyers, CEOs, presidents of companies, bankers and even toddlers(kawai!)… to name a few.
Whew! Am I dreaming? I told myself. And the rest is history…
My English lessons have become my portal to the outside world, the world of my students. Isn’t it interesting? Kudos to the scientists, engineers and programmers who made the internet a perfect tool for all of us to be connected, they’ve made impossible things to be possible.
At present, we’re all battling what seems to be invincible virus called SARS-COV 2. It caused pandemic and unprecedented negative impact to world’s economy. For sure many of us regardless of race, language, belief and culture may take this condition negatively. There are, however goodness that Filipinos see behind all the negativity that the world think.
And this is just one of the things I want to share with you.
Let’s go to a deeper discussion about it. But I’m running out of space here. So I’d like you to follow this blog to take a peek into my world in the Philippines.
