【講師コラム】アンソニー講師No.８～Fostering Team Work and Good Communication in Group Gaming Lessons～

I have always been interested in playing various video games that enable the players to analyze and collaborate as a team in the gameplay. In Englishbuds, I get to handle Fortnite and Among Us lessons with the students. It is a good opportunity for me and the students to interact with and formulate strategies while in game. This can enhance communication skills and promote teamwork.
Having group lessons and playing games as a class can increase overall motivation. By participating in group game lessons, students become more motivated to pay attention and participate in set tasks. Group games help the students to become a part of a team as well as take responsibility for their own learning.
The Among Us group lesson requires problem-solving strategies and planning on the part of the crew mate. In the process, students are able to use their working memory to solve problems and drives them to pay great attention to detail. It also encourages them to speak out their observations and thoughts in order to sort out the imposter among the group. The game boosts their confidence to express themselves in the group and to ask questions if they are not sure on what to do with certain tasks.
Group gaming lessons also help develop a student’s interpersonal skills. They bring about optimism and positivity around the lesson. In this way, students are more motivated to participate with a positive attitude towards learning. These lessons increase class cooperation and team work. In these group lessons, our goal is to also encourage the students to build respect, listen to others and play fairly.
With the advantages of group gaming lessons, I look forward to the day when I can also play and collaborate with our son, Matthew in various games that are suitable for his age. It would be a good opportunity for me to teach him to communicate his thoughts and opinions openly, cooperate with other players in a group and formulate game strategies with him while having fun at the same time.
