It’s been almost two weeks since Taal Volcano vent out its anger and spewed ashes and lava. Streaks of volcanic lightnings were seen while it was erupting that made some people describe the eruption as a “beautiful disaster”.
For some who live far from Taal Volcano and not affected but its erruption, it might look so interesting or even amazing, but for those who were living near it, it was like a “nightmare”.
Taal Volcano in Taal Lake used to be a sight to behold. The place that was once covered with lush greens looks monochromatic now because of the ashes that blanketed the whole area after its horendous eruption. Everywhere is now gray and seems lifeless.
President Duterte recently declared Taal Island a “NO MAN’S LAND”. Because of this, many people who used to live on the said island fear that they won’t be able to return home even after the volcano calms down. They are worried about what kind of life they’ll be facing after this tragedy.
“How can we rebuild our lives? How can we start again?”, these are the questions that are now boggling the minds of the hundreds of thousands of evacuees who fled their homes when Taal Volcano suddely rumbled to life. But amid all these seemingly endless calamity, everyone is also happy to see that the “SPIRIT OF BAYANIHAN” still lives in each of every Filipino.
(Bayanihan is the essence of Filipino culture. It is about the spirit of cooperation and unity among Filipinos.)
And we will forever be grateful to those people from different nations who went out of their ways to give some help for the victims of the Taal eruption.Oh, and speaking of “help (donations)”, I would like to share a funny and really interesting story from some of the evacuees who received some kind of unusual donations. And although some of the donations (like clothes) seemed rather “inappropriate”, the evacuees have taken it with ease and even had some fun with it.
Several people tried on wedding outfits and gowns.
One man was even seen wearing a prisoner’s shirt!
There were also some who took the opportunity to dress up fashionably or make a fashion statement.
Other men just decided to have fun and put on women’s clothings.
It might seem like an odd thing to do in times of calamities, but I just love the thought that these brave and hopeful Filipinos still haven’t lost their sense of humor despite all the uncertainties in front of them. I love how Filipinos are still able to smile amid disasters.
I guess many Filipinos think that in times of difficulties, there is no need to make things worse with a sour face.Thank you so much for taking time to read this entry. Thank you so much to all the Mommies and Daddies who sent me messages asking how we were doing after the Taal Volcano eruption. I deeply appreciate your concern, and your warm messages really made me feel calm and happy. Thank you, very, very much…
