Last September 27,2020 another tragedy occured in our country, Philippines. Just as we were slowly recovering from the Corona Virus, we were yet again hit by a typhoon. The PAGASA ( Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration) named the typhoon Rolly. The typhoon landed in the Northern part of Luzon specifically at Bicol Albay. Rolly was considered the strongest typhoon of the year. Rolly caused deadly landslide, heavy floods that destroyed several houses and reportedly killed 20 people. It’s very sad listening to the headlines knowing that there are so many Filipinos suffering from the pandemic who lost there jobs and now a natural disaster suddenly strike the Philippines and left an immense damage. We’ve been through lot this year but Filipinos are known not to give up easily. I’m happy to see in the internet amidst of the calamity people are still doing the usual things like playing pool, getting married in the middle of the flood, drinking with friends, and selfless and heroic acts like saving animals who were trapped.
As a Filipino we have this way of helping called “bayanihan” it means helping each other to reach exceptional goals. We’ve been practicing this Filipino trait since the days of our ancestors and we are also thankful to all the non-profit organization, the governments and different individuals who extended there help to the victims. The typhoon is still in the Philippine Area of Responsibility and it’s headed toward the central part of Luzon. I believe the government agencies are on standby and ready to rescue anytime soon the typhoon will landed again and hopefully the neighboring countries will not experience what we experienced here in the Philippines.
