Communication Autobiography by Adam

Twenty-four years ago, a male infant who was crawling on the floor learned how to say the words “mama” and “papa”. He was the first child of his parents. His mother was a professional teacher in a public elementary school in Manila while his father was a factory worker of one of the biggest beverage company worldwide. During the infant days, his parents and his relatives talks to him frequently so that he will be trained his speech.

From his age 2 to 4 years old, he was able to read Filipino and English words and phrases little by little with the help of his first teacher, his mother. Having a professional teaching mother is a great advantage. Most of the parents during that time (around year 1995 – 2000) are very eager to discipline their child. That kid learned to read difficult words and phrases at young age because of discipline. His mother will either raise her voice, spank or pinch him. That kind of discipline was done when he did something wrong.

During his elementary days, he was studying with his two brothers in a public school where his mother was teaching. Before going to school, his mother will train and teach them to read sets of vocabularies and short stories Filipino and English languages to improve their reading and comprehension. That happened from Kindergarten to Grade 6.

From high school to college, the boy joined student publications where he learned and improved his verbal and non-verbal communication skills. In a student publication, the officers and members are required to watch news and read newspapers for them to be more updated in current events. Originally, the boy was not really a fan of reading any printed and online articles.  It caught his interest to read when he joined the publication and became more interested in reading and writing articles. The boy was appointed as editorial cartoonist in high school where articles are expressed in caricatures.  In a state university, he was elected as the editor-in-chief of a college publication. During his fourth year in college, he had his training in business field in two multinational companies where his communications skills even improved. He was able to work with the company personnel. He learned many things from the training such as writing business documents and how to speak with corporate people professionally using the English language.

After school years, he began to challenge himself to find a job. He was hired by an advertising company as one of the marketing staffs. His job was to search and generate potential business clients by calling them one by one.

After one year, he started to enter the education industry where he has been teaching students Accounting and Business Management subjects for more than four (4) years. His communication skills is continuously improving since it is a new working environment for him. He said that until now, he is still learning and it never stops. As long as we are living, learning never stops.

To sum it up, the English language same as the others can be learned and used properly through:

  1. Proper guidance of parents and relatives;
  2. Good discipline;
  3. Teachings and trainings by teachers;
  4. Self-experience by reading articles, watching television shows/online videos;
  5. Work experience; and
  6. Sharing what people learned to others.

For him, having good communication skills is not only about learning how to speak and read the words, phrases and sentences in Filipino and English languages but also having its correct and right application. Writing and saying what you really see, hear, feel, taste and smell. He learned to use the said languages with the help of the people around him and especially with the help of the Almighty Father. What we learned everything good must be shared to everyone.

According to the epistle of Paul to Hebrews, “For when for the time you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

The boy and the man mentioned in the article was I.

People have their own ways in learning to communicate effectively. They have to asses themselves to know if the techniques are appropriate with his or her potentials. Never give up on learning good things especially in communicating it to others.

いかがでしたでしょうか?

アダムの家庭、まさにおうち英語!という環境ですね。

日頃のアダムの仕事ぶりなどを見ていて感じることは

アダムは本当に真面目で優しく正直者ということです。

彼のパーソナリティーはお母さまのご教育の賜物なのでしょうか。

結構厳しいお母さんみたいですし・・・(^^;
