【講師コラム】マリア講師No.14～Cultivating a Joyful Classroom: A Teacher’s Perspective～

As an educator, I have always believed in the power of joy and creativity in the learning process. I firmly believe that when students find joy in the process, they are more likely to engage, explore, and excel. Making learning enjoyable and exciting is a significant part of my teaching philosophy, creating an environment where curiosity thrives and each lesson becomes a joyous adventure.

In my five years of experience teaching English to kids, one way I’ve found to make learning more fun and exciting is incorporating virtual rewards. These rewards go beyond just saying “good job”; I give digital stickers and rewards to students as a way to show they did a great job. Recognizing the importance of motivation, these rewards make them feel proud and confident. It also adds an extra layer of excitement to the learning process. I love it when I see my students smile or laugh, especially when they see candies, fruits, or any stickers popping up on their screens. It’s a small thing, but it brings a lot of joy to our virtual classroom. They become moments that make learning memorable and enjoyable.

Creativity is also at the heart of my virtual classroom. As teachers, we should always remember that we are facing students with diverse personalities and learning styles that is why it is a must to prepare or provide activities that suit their interests. I love trying out different and enjoyable approaches that match each student’s learning style. Whether it’s turning grammar lessons into playful games or telling stories that connect with everyday experiences, I make sure to make every class captivating. Englishbuds gives students the freedom to do what they enjoy, so I am really glad. This flexibility really brings an additional element of satisfaction to the learning process.

Furthermore, I try to make my students feel like I’m their big sister. It’s more than just regular teaching; it means building a friendly relationship where students feel at ease and cared for. It allows me to connect with my students on a personal level, building trust and making the learning experience more relatable and enjoyable.

One of the best parts of teaching is seeing how it helps my students. I’ve been lucky to hear nice feedback and success stories that show how Englishbuds classes make a big difference. Some students who used to feel nervous about learning a new language now talk with confidence. Parents have also expressed how delighted they are that their children are excited about taking online English classes now.

In essence, shared moments of joy make teaching uniquely rewarding for me. It contributes to a positive and enjoyable learning environment, making a meaningful difference in students’ experiences and cultivating a genuine love for learning.
