【講師コラム】マリア講師No.1～My Introduction～

Hello, everyone! How are you? I hope you are all doing great! Today, I was given the chance to write this blog to introduce myself to you; so, I want to thank you in advance for making time to know me more. 😀

My name is Maria, 22 years old, born and raised in the largest city in the Philippines, which is Davao City. I am a licensed professional teacher and I have been teaching English since I graduated 2 years ago. I can say that my heart really belongs to teaching and that I am in love with this job! In life, we often find inspiration in a variety of people and things; and I would have to say that the person who has most greatly inspired me to become a teacher was my former high school English teacher. So, I decided to take up English Education in college in 2015. Thanks to President Rodrigo Duterte, who was the former Mayor of Davao City, I finished college without having to mind about my tuition, because I was one of his lucky scholars! I graduated from the University of Southeastern Philippines in 2019 with flying colors and was awarded as the “Best in Demonstration Teaching” in our university and in the same year, I passed the board exam for teachers. Since then, I have been teaching English online. I have taught English to Chinese students of all ages and other than being an online English teacher, I am also a college teacher.

In my spare time, I enjoy going for a walk or hiking, since I live in an area where there are lots of mountains and grasslands. Spending time in nature is one of the best things that make me feel happier, especially during this time of pandemic. At present, as we are facing a crisis, it is important to find ways to feel better. As for me, having a connection to nature, even a short walk or just looking at green spaces from the window, can really brighten up my day. I also love spending time with my family and friends and I enjoy going for a walk and playing with my three dogs; they are Odi, Kobe and Gianna. Some of my students here have already met them and they love them! You can meet them too if you want to! 😀

I’ve been teaching here for two weeks now and I am truly happy to be here at Englishbuds. I get to do what I’m passionate about for a living and enjoy at the same time! I’ve already met new friends, who are all wonderful and very kind. I want to thank Mommy Kayo for giving me the opportunity to be part of her extraordinary company and to all students that I have met and will meet soon! I could never imagine myself being in any other profession than teaching. Every day, I strive to improve myself to be able to give the best learning experience to my students because I believe that a good teacher must constantly learn and improve himself. I am more than excited to have more fun here with all of you while learning the English language.
