【講師コラム】マデル講師No.22～Embracing Flexibility: My Journey as an Online Englishbuds Tutor～

Good day, Englishbuds’ Moms and Dads! Happy, happy New Year! I sincerely hope that you are all having a wonderful start of the 2024… I do hope that 2024 would be a year that would make our wishes come true and would give us a lot of happy memories.

Anyway, I was told that it would be my turn to write an entry for Englishbuds, and the topic would be about my teaching style. When I heard about it, I could not help but smile. The memories of how I started my journey as an Englishbuds’ tutor suddenly came to my mind…

At first, it was definitely overwhelming. I can still vividly remember the first time I had my lesson online, I was extremely nervous! Teacher Mel had taught me a lot about how I should be doing the class, and what questions should I be asking the students but I was really nervous that I could almost only hear my own heartbeat.  What did I get myself into?! Did I mess up? What if the students and their parents did not enjoy my class? Will I have other students? These were my first thoughts right after I finished my first lesson. I honestly wanted to cry. Teacher Mel called me after that and asked how I was. She told me that it was definitely just fine to feel nervous and even make mistakes sometimes, and that I would surely get used to giving English lessons online soon. The first few weeks were really tough, but I kept reminding myself that nothing in life that is worth having comes easy.

In my years as an Englishbuds tutor, I have come to realize that being an online English teacher truly is never easy! But it definitely is extremely fun and rewarding… My teaching style?… I have decided to have a FLEXIBLE TEACHING STYLE… That is because children have different abilities, needs, and interests. Each student learn in different ways and different pace. I can be a serious teacher, a funny teacher, a quirky teacher, a cool teacher, an enthusiastic teacher, a traditional teacher, and so on… My style would always be depending on the student that I am having a lesson with, as I am here to meet my students’ abilities, needs, and interests. I am here to make their English learning journey fun, memorable, and worthwhile.

I must say that being an online English teacher is indeed one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. And I am lucky because I have the most wonderful students ever. Thank you so much, Mommies and Daddies for letting your little ones have my lessons. I know that I still have some areas to improve as a teacher, but I am committed to do my best and keep improving myself to help my students meet their full potential through learning English… Thank you so much again for having time to read my entry, Mommies and Daddies.
