【講師コラム】アダム講師No.7～A Teacher’s Talent Beyond Teaching～

All people were born with certain and unique talents. Some are obvious. Some are hidden. According to American Express, “Hidden talents are skills you never knew you had”. This can be shown with the help of teachers or experiences. In this blog, I will humbly share the ways I figured out my hidden talents.

When I was a child, I used to dream to be an accountant, a doctor, or an architect someday because people would always say that these jobs will make you earn a big amount of money someday and help the family to have a wealthy life. During that time also, it made me start to have an interest in drawing by imitating the comic strips in the newspapers. 

Until I reached high school. During that time, I was interested in anime because of friends. One of my friends who was an Art Club president taught me from the basic outlines up to shading using charcoal pencils, oil pastel, and even pen. It made me join and win some poster making contests and became the school’s cartoonist.

As I reached college, I still continued learning and applying arts by being one of our state university’s cartoonists. This was also one of my ways to express what I feel. 

To continue, I chose to take Accountancy during that time but I failed after one year which makes me shift to taking Business Administration course. Along the way, I used to tutor some of my classmates and my brother’s friends. Until I finished the course and graduated.

I used to work in the marketing industry for one year in an international marketing/directory company. I used to learn technical things in the marketing aspect. However, it did not make me interested to pursue the marketing or business field or career.

Until I found out that I fell in love with…. TEACHING.

I asked my brother to help me to start my teaching career because he is a licensed teacher. Now, I have been teaching students for more than five years because I used to do what I like, which is teaching. I have been teaching the business subjects and the one which I used to fail, Accounting. I should have taken an education course but it is never too late.

Beyond teaching, it is good to make students listen, learn, and enjoy at the same time. All people can teach but some cannot unless you enjoy doing it.  

Beyond teaching, it is really fulfilling when you see students not only learning the technical concepts but also grow as good people to everyone. With the help of Someone who is beyond everything, I am still a teacher doing what is beyond teaching.
